15 Films to Compete for Visual Effects Oscar

A scene from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The eligible films are:
  • ā€œAustraliaā€
  • ā€œThe Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspianā€
  • ā€œCloverfieldā€
  • ā€œThe Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonā€
  • ā€œThe Dark Knightā€
  • ā€œThe Day the Earth Stood Stillā€
  • ā€œHancockā€
  • ā€œHellboy II: The Golden Armyā€
  • ā€œThe Incredible Hulkā€
  • ā€œIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullā€
  • ā€œIron Manā€
  • ā€œJourney to the Center of the Earthā€
  • ā€œThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperorā€
  • ā€œQuantum of Solaceā€
  • ā€œThe Spiderwick Chroniclesā€
Benjamin Button, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Iron Man...what else? Definitely not The Mummy or Spiderwick. Perhaps Australia? I would love to see Cloverfield get a nomination. Something about that just seems right.

Indy, if not TDK. *shrugs*

The Academy loves Spielberg, but I don't know if even they can take those monkeys seriously.

I'm sure they can take the aliens seriously, tho!

I think this has to go to Hellboy. Of all the superhero/monster action sequences this summer, I think Del Toro delivered the best.

That still from BEJAMIN BUTTON really looks fantastic. Such a textured composition, cannot wait to see it, but will so on the evening of Christmas Day.
