"They have to be given their due."

I just saw Charlie Kaufman's magisterial triptych Synecdoche, New York, and am going to work on hammering out some thoughts. But writing a cohesive review on this thing is going to be a daunting task. I think it's hands down one of the best films of the year (how high remains to be seen), but I haven't decided rather I'm going to publish the review here or in The Dispatch. I haven't gotten word from Sony about the local release dates here, but as soon as I know I'll make my decision. It may take me that long to write the review anyway.

In other news, I just found out that I will be unable to attend both my press screening of Australia and Milk thanks to a combination of class and a show I'm working on next week. Hopefully there will be more coming up in time for me to review them in a timely manner.

But for now I'm still processing Synecdoche...

Snap! Iā€™m processing too, reeling actuallyā€¦but I think it is one of my favourite films of the year. It was tender, thought provoking, weird but most of all, a amalgamation of talent and ambition resulting in a cerebral contemplation that had moments wre I though it might go off the deep end and Kaufman would casually retreat right up his own ass, but it never did and neither did Kaufman. I wanted to review it quickly so that I could have it up and still by ā€œtimelyā€ but I donā€™t think that will benefit the film or my crazy schedule, weā€™ll see.

I am sorry you are missing the Milk and Australia press screenings, but I am sure your press people are kind enough to allow you to make alternate arrangements. Like I said, I miss Australia (now I have no choice but to see it on the 30th of November) but lucky there is another press screening of Button before its US release. Unfortunately, Milk doesnā€™t even seem to have a release date here at all, so. Dying to see that myself.

A little part of me is filled with happiness everytime someone likes this movie.

It was kind of a slap in the face to see it, love it, write a gushy review of it, and then start reading to find out that not everyone was so impressed by it.

Nick, I doubt I'll get to see AUSTRALIA before opening at this point, but there is still a chance that there will be another screening of MILK later on, so I haven't given up hope. Plus I'll be on winter break soon and school won't be a consideration for a while at least. I can't wait to read your review of SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK. You're always at your finest when you have strong passion for a film.

Craig, you can definitely count me among its fans. SYNECDOCHE is one of the best films I have seen this year, and I will have trouble justifying my feelings toward it in a simple review.

Indeed Matthew, I completely agree with your assessment as I do with Craig's, and Nick's.
