DVD Viewing for the Week

I made a trip to the university library and picked up copies of:
  • Ikiru (Kurosawa, 1952)
  • Fires on the Plain (Ichikawa, 1959)
  • The Mission (Joffe, 1986)
I checked out the first two for research for my Japanese film presentation on Thursday. I have never seen Ikiru and have been wanting to for a while, and I figured that I should at least mention Ichikawa since he just passed away a few weeks ago.

And I just checked out The Mission because it's one of those I've missed, and listening to Ennio Morricone's gorgeous score last night got me in the mood to watch it.

I plan to go back and get Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 15 1/2 hour epic, Berlin Alexanderplatz and try to tackle it over spring break next week. I figure it will take several days to get through the whole thing.
